On May 8, DisasterWISE hosted our Monthly Get-Together featuring guest speakers Jade Ambrose from Merri-bek Tech and Terry Matts from Crest NSW Inc. The session focused on community communications for adaptation and resilience. Merri-bek Tech shared insights on building local web infrastructure across neighbourhoods to offer affordable alternatives to big tech while strengthening local resilience in response to the climate crisis. CREST, a volunteer organisation, discussed how they provide specialist communications support to emergency and community organisations.
DisasterWISE Get-Togethers are designed to bring together members of the DisasterWISE Communities Network, fostering connection, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration. These gatherings serve as essential touchpoints for members to share experiences about common challenges in disaster preparedness, response, recovery and climate adaptation initiatives.
The DisasterWISE Communities Network hosts a one hour online gathering to discuss a topical subject. Guest speakers are invited along to share their knowledge, with an emphasis on lived experience, community-led initiatives and on supporting community resilience.
You're invited to attend monthly gatherings, the discussion is open to everyone and you're welcome to suggest speakers and topics of interest - just email connect@disasterwise.com.au
