Our Team

  • Kate Fawcett

    CO-CONVENOR

Kate Fawcett is the Network Convenor for DisasterWISE, where she brings together her lived experience of the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires with a lifelong commitment to learning and community. With academic foundations in sociology and women’s studies, Kate draws on her deep understanding of social movements and systems change to champion community-led approaches to disaster recovery and resilience. Her career has spanned teaching in community kindergartens to social enterprise and grassroots organising, including founding a Fair Trade business. On the weekends, you’ll likely find Kate in the garden, reading a good book, and spending time with family.

  • Steve Cameron

    CO-CONVENOR

Steve Cameron is a Co-Convenor for DisasterWISE, with years of experience in volunteering and working with communities and supporting organisations - before, during and after emergencies and disasters. Steve’s career has included working with local communities to build relationships while identifying, protecting, and enhancing their values and systems, together with the support of others as needed. Steve is also trained and experienced in the development, use and review of simulations to support experiential learning. This includes the collaborative tailoring of scenarios and opportunities for people to discover and explore the power, strengths and resourcefulness of communities, in good times and critical times of need.
