DisasterWISE will be hosting Member Meetings every last Wednesday of the month, providing a welcoming, low pressure space for members to connect and share. These gatherings focus on building a strong core membership through member-driven participation, encouraging contributions to DisasterWISE community-led projects, ideas and initiatives, and fostering networking opportunities.
Each session will include soft exercises and activities designed to strengthen connections across the membership, with discussions centred on getting to know one another and a general update on the DisasterWISE network and what's to come. Members are invited to share stories, current projects or community-led initiatives your working on, and engage with network projects to the extent you choose. This inclusive approach ensures that all voices are heard and respected based on each person's capacity to participate. If you’d like to just come to introduce yourself, listen in, that's okay too.
We aim to create a safe and respectful environment for all community members, especially those with lived experience of disasters. We ask everyone entering our virtual spaces to be mindful of the impact of language and to avoid terms that may dismiss or dehumanise deep trauma. At DisasterWISE, we encourage thoughtful, intentional dialogue that honours the depth and diversity of community experiences. If you’d like to understand more about this, you can read our Safer Spaces policy here.
