Story for Purpose is a community-led initiative helping to share valuable knowledge and lessons learned on resilience, recovery, and renewal – from those who have done it.
Story for Purpose is about creating opportunities for people to connect and learn from each other by understanding diverse perspectives through the power of story. As an enabler for these processes, DisasterWISE recognises that every community and every disaster is different, and that people can have very different experiences from the same event.
By ‘sharing our stories, our way’ DisasterWISE provides opportunities to be creative in sharing and understanding different perspectives through stories within and across communities. This can have many local benefits through the principles of ‘connect, learn and change’.
Sharing stories via the DisasterWISE Communities Network also provides opportunities to build a collection of Australian and overseas examples, to support ongoing learning and influence change at home, in our communities and across society.
DisasterWISE is committed to amplifying community voices to respectfully challenge and improve the ways we work together
Join us in fostering curiosity and learning to inspire community-led action and drive real change.
Story for Purpose was co-created and prototyped by members of the Mallacoota community. With valuable lessons learned after the Summer Fires of 2019/2020, Carol Hopkins worked together with the DisasterWISE team to develop this initiative. We thank Carol, Christy, John, Jenny, Eva and Mary and Laz from Primal Vision for their expertise, contributions and willingness to share their stories.
