I just read about this and wondered what everyone’s thoughts are on Virtual Reality as a disaster preparedness tool: It might be interesting to know that the University of South Australia has already researched this potential with encouraging findings. (See the article here) In the article, reference is made to the importance of anticipating the high-stress state experienced when responding to a bushfire. Physical preparation is crucial, but a piece of the puzzle is missing without emotional preparation. Maintaining the capacity to think and act effectively during a potentially life-threatening disaster is vital. Overall, with the incredible technology and advancements that we now have at our fingertips, it seems essential to start drawing on them more consistently with a long-term view to assisting all of our at-risk communities. </p>
